Water is Life. Water is Happiness

Sairam friends,

Last evening my Father was speaking to me about his childhood memories while watching old Tamil songs. That he used to sleep in the platform near the ditch and never knew that it isn’t hygienic as there were 8 kids in their home. My Pa said he will at times watch 2 movies at night, then, reach home to sleep in the concrete road. My Grand Father who was a teacher somehow made everyone of his kid study well and they grew ahead in life. When I listen to these stories, I could realize how India was before 50-60 years. Most of us have lived a very ordinary life. We never complicated life as much as we do it today. With all the comfort we enjoy today, we never know how the water we use everyday reaches us and that its getting scarce.

Every single day, I used to read about Startups and Tech companies. This morning, I read these news online.

Drought-Stricken California Residents Demand That Nestlé Company Stop Bottling Water

The California drought is a problem Silicon Valley isn’t helping to solve

California Drought: Urban users cut their water use by whopping 31.3 percent in July heat

I am not sure how I landed on this article published months back. It made me think how the Tech hub in Silicon Valley cannot solve their own water problem? Engineers are building water recycling plants but it is not possible to create water from chips, coding or any other complicated algorithm. Water has to come from nature and that’s the purest of all water even if we could create it.

From California to Coimbatore there’s one thing in common. “We need more Water”. In the area I go for walk, I used to see some Men carrying water early in the morning from corporation water pipe and pleading near by houses to give them water. I think they also pay a little to get this can of water.

There are some people in various parts of the world who don’t have enough water to drink and there are few who waste water for no reason. They simply don’t care about it.  Across India, I see people speaking about economic growth, technological advancement and improved lifestyle but we never take much efforts to conserve Nature and our water reserves are not enough for future needs.

Spiritually, Water is considered to be most sacred as it has purifying capability and when we don’t have enough water for our everyday needs, we get frustrated. The end result will be loosing peace of mind. So in a way, the need to conserve water must be practiced on a day to day basis by everyone.

Even if American’s could not sustain such drought, how can India even imagine drought being a highly populated country? We will struggle if Mother Nature turns back on us. This Navratri, lets us take a resolution not to waste water. Do little you can to use water within limits. Just because you can get water in abundance today doesn’t mean you can always get it.

Water is Life

Water is Happiness.

Let there be happiness everywhere.
